Quitting like a Winner

How I love and hate my job. It’s true. I love the work I do, however I dislike my management as if they were STDs and peanuts. Which is why after finally getting off of night shifts, they asked me to go back on them, to create my 7th shift change in 8 months, I decided I had to much. I am not to be piece of bubble gum used to cover a leak in Hover Dam. So I’ve been searching for a new job. In fact, I have a second interview with a company next week. So I have to think, how will I leave this current company, and then I thought, this place is a revolving door with about 15 people that have quit or been asked to leave since I started, so I’m going to take notes of how they left.

So you’re telling me that the previous management didn’t have this issue? There has not been a revolving door of employees?

That’s right! I mean, I cannot seem to even fathom what could be wrong here. Can you?

For something fun, let’s take a look at some of these stellar hires we’ve been through.

My first day of work had foreshadowing all over it, I just didn’t notice it. The guy sitting next to me went to lunch and was never heard from again. To this day he is still at lunch. Wow, that’s a long lunch. I wish I could have a lunch like that.

gone-to-lunch

After that there was Temper Number One and Mr. Food Poisoning. They left in about 2 months after I started. Temper was funny. He would flip over almost nothing. So thus it became my goal to see how many times a week I could push over the limit. I giggled once at something random and he lost it. It wasn’t even to him. Easy target. Food poisoning seem to have can you guess it, FOOD POISONING ever other week. Those 2 didn’t have great leaving stories.

Temper Number Two. This was a fun one. First he applied with one name, said his name was something else, then went by a completely other name. Hmmm. Next his temper was hysterical. You would try to tell him how to do something, and suddenly he took it out on the mouse. Yes, the mouse apparently was evil and attacking him and making him do the wrong things at work. I think the panic attack in the middle of talking to a client was epic. He got tripped up on one thing, not even something big, but blanked and refused to talk. He had to be calmed down and left alone for about 2 hours. No more phone calls that day. He was let go a week later.

Next was the texters. You’ll love these ones. So they were the hard workers, fun to hang out, picked up on everything quickly. Then suddenly one day one doesn’t show up. No call. The next day same thing. No show no call. Ok. That lead to us to trying to text and check up on the person. Finally we get a reply, and it was him saying he quits. What!? Gets better. Number Two is telling us how that was messed up and he couldn’t believe someone would do that. A week later he is joking saying that he will do that, just not show up and text he quits. A week later we’re told his mom is in the hospital he won’t be in. Two days later the text comes in, he quits.

App To Quit

They must have used this app.

After that we had another one quit, just saying his wife was sick and so he quits. Well, ok there Skippy.

We had a string for a bit of no quitters. Then the best new hires and leavers joined us.

Hero number 1, shall be called The IT Tech Who Couldn’t Type. I kid you not. It was painful to watch this guy work, and he sat right next to me. He would finger pick every letter. And it took a year to type a sentence. You would tell him something 25 times, and he still didn’t get. Even better you know how I work with talking on the phones all day with end users? He stated he doesn’t want to do that. Despite it being in the job description. Yeah we let him go.

Um

Hero Number 2 is better than him. I call him Sleeper. He lasted 4 days. He started right as I was switching off night shifts. He was falling asleep every few minutes. They sent him home early because of it twice. Day 4 he was falling asleep as soon as he sat down. That was the last we saw of him before management asked him to go home and not come back. That wasn’t even the best part. This was definitely an  unhealthy guy that was about 40ish. You could literally hear him wheezing to walk behind you. Remember that South Park episode where the boys were playing World of Warcraft, I swear this guy looked like him. Also, I heard this from the team, when he was told to home, he called his mum. Nothing wrong with that, but the stereotype. It was all there!

SleeperI was afraid we were going to have to  use the EKG and defibrillators we have. (Before you start thinking we have people dropping dead all the time, we work on hardware and software for medics, we try to make sure that they’re working with their monitors before sending them back their hardware. We haven’t  had anyone drop yet on our team.) Then he asked how to create a bookmark, and how to copy paste. He was hired as a Tier 2 IT Technician.

This is how I felt.

This is how I felt.

Some pretty awesome examples huh? I like the guy that went to lunch, and the texters. Though maybe I’ll do something different, give them a 2 week notice, then again, standing up, yelling that’s it, dropping a mic and walking out seems like a pretty stellar idea as well.

What do you think?

Weekend Get-A-Ways and Hump Day

Yes it’s been a few days since I’ve written anything. There is a problem, my mind is a little blank. (Give me suggestions people, and I’ll make something up for you.)  I did have a nice weekend away with Boyfriend visiting a friend of his family and seeing the Statue of Liberty.

Did you ever notice that the Statue of Liberty has rather manly arms? I mean, some guys would be jealous of them. You don’t see it as much from the front, but then looking at the back and slightly from the side, there it is. Muscle city boys. You also cannot help but notice she is trying to walk somewhere. I’ve always wondered where she is trying to go as she is surrounded by water.

20141025_142730 20141025_144717These were taken going around the on the Miss  New Jersey Ferry for a tour. We saw Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. It was rather nice. Which as we were in the harbour and could see Brooklyn lead to a nice rousing sing along by the two of us of No Sleep Til Brooklyn, well ok, more like us chanting of No Sleep Til Brooklyn. Most of the other tourists were not paying attention anyways.

I did get 2 of new favorite photos though while we were there.

20141025_133239IMG_50927075026572Isn’t he cute?

Today getting into work I was so out of it, that I forgot it was Hump Day. So I played with my toys on me desk to create a fun little Happy Hump Day Pic. As well as share the lovely impression someone made in the stairwell at work. Let me tell you, that’s quite some impression too.

20141029_071702 20141029_194343Ok. I’m out of ideas, so please share with me what you want to know.

Night Shifts Are Fun

So I’m working night shifts. I’m pretty sure that I told you that. It’s a bit creepy, especially with an over active imagination and anxiety. I think I gave myself a few panic attacks already. Mild, but when you are on the third floor, with no trees near the windows and things start banging on them in the middle of the night, I think the worst. I know there is someone trying to get through that window! I swear there is.

huh

Don’t look at me like that!

The floors above me have a college’s biological genetics lab. You know what that means don’t you? I’m at ground zero when the zombie outbreak starts. That’s right. There could be zombies trying to get in here too. Each night I start my shift, I walk around to see what would make a good weapon. You know, what would stab them in the head good, or at least enough to slow them down so I can jump out that third story window. I figure, my car is parked right outside on the street, I can pull myself to the car and climb in.

walkingDead

What? You know you would do it too.

Did I mention that a few weeks ago, there was this creepy dirty old looking doll that was sitting on a step across the street from the office? Yes, there was. And it kept moving. Each time I looked out the window, it was somewhere else. I’m sorry, but that’s just not right. And no, there are no children across the street. I mean it, there isn’t. That thing is going to end up doing something.

creeper

There is this polar vortex in here too. You will hear the doors pull themselves shut a bit like someone is pulling on the handles, then the next thing you know, all you hear is this suctioning going on. If you try to open a door, you know, to attend to nature’s calls, you have to take a running start and slam into the door, and to come in? You are putting your full weight behind your pull to open it.

Did I mention our office takes up two floors? It does, and the first floor of our offices is locked up at night. I get the fun job of hearing that alarm going off multiple times a night. People randomly coming in at night to do who knows what. I’ll go to check it out, and find no one.

This is such a fun and entertaining job at night. I enjoy it so much.

Ramblings

I’m on a new shift at work, working 7pm to 7am. Makes great for not seeing people, or just a rare few. I see people that I’m replacing from the day shift, and I see the people replacing me. I see my boyfriend for a short period of time when I start work. It’s not much time, but hey, it’s time. I also see the people that come in to work at random times of the night. Interesting conversations pursue as I’m all sorts of silly at night.

That being said, I think I received a compliment tonight.

I’ve been changing the hair up lately. It was Pink, then Purple, then it went black, and as close to my normal color, browish red. I then became bored again and thought, hey! Let’s change it again and went blonde and red.

See, something a little different.

Anyways, back to the story. One of the developers at work who I play D&D with said my hair reminds him of someone. That was a couple of months ago. Tonight, he finally remembered who it was. Apparently my hair reminds me of Haley Williams from Paramore.

What do you think? Do we look alike? And is this a compliment?

Random Things you come Across

I was trying to read an article at work on how to do something, and the explanation was all Latin to me, but the translation is my new matra!

My Birthday

So, things have been quiet lately. I’ve hit a dry spell not knowing what to write. How this happened, I’m not quite sure, but I know work has been a main contributor as by the time it’s over, I only want to sleep.  Seriously, I just crawl into bed not long after work, and the next thing I know, it’s time to go back to work.

For my birthday though, I took off of work, and my boyfriend treated me to the best day ever! He took me to one of my favorite places, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. I could have spent all day there, and tried to! It was amazing to have a day with nothing to worry about, and spend it with someone who loves and cares for me. It was pure joy.

Photos were taken of course, about 200 of them. I told you I love my camera. I thought I would share some of them with you whilst I think of new things to write and entertain you with.

Oh I forgot to mention, they had a train display set up. It was one of my highlights, I wonder why.

Where have I been?

I’m alive, but writing is going to be slow for a while. I have become homeless as of recently, and am staying with some friends. Thank God I met these people. They’re a gift to me. I swear. I do not know how to repay them. Except for cooking. Come on, guys… food. No brainer, but I love to cook, and it makes me feel like I’m contributing.

I’ve been looking at some apartments, and have some more to see this week. I’m hoping to have a new home soon. I cannot keep crashing with these two when I care about them, and feel as if I’m invading their land. Of course movies, video games, and just randomness every night is a lot of fun.

People are placed before you for reasons you don’t know of. I found one of the reasons they were placed before me, and I am forever thankful.

So don’t worry guys, if you were. I’m alive, just slightly harder to reach. It’s hard to type on a phone, and much easier to jot off emails on the phone than posts. I have so much to catch up on, so forgive me if I haven’t responded. I’ll be getting to them, just will take a bit.
